Privacy policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Anypoll is a neutral, phone-verified polling platform: one equal vote per verified person, with only totals published. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the choices and rights you have. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed past.
Who we are
Anypoll is currently operated by Anytrade Markets, Inc., 1000 N West St, Suite 1200, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA, which is responsible for your data ("we", "us"). Anypoll will move to its own independent entity, and donations will be handled by a separate nonprofit, the Anypoll Foundation. When that happens we will update this policy and tell you. Privacy questions and requests: [email protected].
The short version
- Your individual votes are private. We only publish totals, never who voted for what.
- We never sell your personal data and never use it for targeted advertising.
- We keep your phone number only as a scrambled fingerprint, unless you choose to get text alerts.
- Email updates, text alerts and the voter profile are optional and need your consent.
- You can see, correct and delete your data. Write to us and we will respond within the time the law requires (usually 30 to 45 days).
What we collect
Your account. When you sign in with Google, X, email or another sign-in option we offer, we receive your name, email address, profile picture (if you have one) and which sign-in method you used. Sign-in is handled by our login provider, Clerk; we never see your password for those services.
Your mobile number. To make sure every person votes only once, you confirm a mobile number with a code sent by text message. The code is sent by Twilio. We check what kind of number it is (for example mobile or internet number) and its country, then store a salted, one-way fingerprint of the number, its country, the type of line and the carrier name. We do not store the number itself, unless you choose text alerts (see below). We also log how many codes are requested, with a scrambled form of the requesting IP address, to stop abuse.
Your votes. We store which answer you chose in each poll, linked to your account, so you can see and change your vote and so nobody can vote twice. Votes are never shown individually. Results are published as totals only.
Leaderboard and Impact points. You get a random public name (for example Quiet-Otter-4821), which you can change. Your public name, Impact points, rank and badges appear on the public leaderboard unless you choose to hide from it. Your real name is never shown.
Invites and sharing. Your account has an invite code that is added to links you share. If someone joins through your link, we record that you invited them, so you both see it reflected in Impact points. When a share button is used, we log the poll, the channel (for example X or Reddit) and your account if you are signed in. When someone first arrives through a tracked link, we log the campaign details in that link (such as utm_source), not who they are.
How you found us. When you sign up we store the campaign details of the link you came from, the first poll you visited and a country guess based on your browser language.
Email updates (optional). If you sign up, we keep your email address, which lists you chose, and when and where you gave consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link and a link to manage your preferences.
Text alerts (optional). If you tick the text alerts box when you confirm your mobile number (it is never ticked for you), or turn text alerts on under Notifications in your account menu, we keep your mobile number, its country and your time zone, and a record of your consent: the wording you agreed to, when, where on the site, and a scrambled form of your IP address. We use the number only to text you when new polls go live: up to 4 texts a month, sent between 10am and 8pm your time. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop them, or HELP for help, or turn them off under Notifications. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of voting. We log each text we send (date and delivery status) to keep to the monthly limit. Texts are sent by Twilio. The text alerts terms have the details.
Poll suggestions and initiative proposals. If you suggest a poll or propose an Impact Treasury initiative, we store what you sent with your account so we can review it.
Profile basics. To vote, we ask for your year of birth and the country you live in (and your state, if you live in the US), when you confirm your mobile number or, if you confirmed it earlier, before your next vote. We use your year of birth to keep Anypoll for people aged 13 and over, and all three to weight results by age group and place so they represent the whole population, and for anonymous totals. Country and state are pre-filled from your approximate location, which our hosting provider Cloudflare works out from your IP address; we don't store that location or your IP address for this. If the year shows you may be under 13, we don't send a code, delete any votes and profile answers, and the account can't vote. These answers are never shown with your name.
Voter profile (optional). You can choose to tell us your year of birth, gender, state and ZIP code, education, household income bracket, race or ethnicity, the party you lean to, your 2024 vote, and how often you get news from certain TV channels, newspapers and online platforms. Some of this is sensitive personal information. We only collect it with your explicit consent, every question can be answered with "Prefer not to say", and the profile is for people aged 18 and over. We use it only to weight poll results so they represent the whole population and to produce anonymous totals, such as how viewers of different news channels answered a poll. Profile answers are stored separately from your votes, are never shown with your name, are never sold, and are only ever published as totals of at least 100 people. You can change or delete your profile at any time on the profile page.
Donations (coming soon). When donations open, payments will be handled by a payment provider. We will receive the amount, the date and a payment reference, never your full card details.
Technical data. Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses and basic request data to deliver the site and protect it against attacks. For rate limits we store short-lived, scrambled forms of IP addresses (deleted after one day). If something goes wrong when you sign in, we may log the error, your browser type and the page (deleted after 60 days).
Cookies and storage in your browser
We do not use advertising cookies. With your permission we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and features work: it sets cookies that tell repeat visits apart and records the pages you open, your rough location (country or region) and device type, never your name, votes or profile answers. Advertising features and Google signals are switched off. If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, it only runs after you agree; elsewhere you can turn it off under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a no. Clerk sets cookies that keep you signed in. Cloudflare may set a cookie needed for security. Anypoll stores a few small settings in your browser's local storage, for example your light or dark mode choice, a vote you picked just before signing in, and your invite code, so the site works smoothly. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
Why we use your data
- To run Anypoll: your account, voting, changing your vote, results, the leaderboard and Impact points.
- To keep it fair and safe: one vote per person, blocking duplicate and internet phone numbers, preventing bots, spam and abuse, and securing the service.
- To make results representative: weighting with the optional voter profile, and anonymous statistics.
- To communicate with you: emails and text alerts you signed up for, and important messages about your account.
- To improve Anypoll: understanding which channels and features work, using counts and campaign data.
- To meet legal obligations and to defend our rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, our legal bases are: performing our agreement with you (account and voting), our legitimate interests in running a fair, secure and representative polling service (fraud prevention, security, statistics, improving the service), your consent (email updates, text alerts and the voter profile, including explicit consent for sensitive data), and legal obligations.
Poll results and data products
Anypoll results are public. Anypoll may also offer aggregated poll data to media, researchers and partners, for example results by state or age group. This data is always aggregated and de-identified, never contains names, contact details, phone fingerprints or individual votes, and small groups (fewer than 100 people) are never reported. Anypoll results are also used to settle opinion markets on Anytrade, a separate planned trading platform; Anytrade receives only the published results, not personal data.
Who helps us (service providers)
We use these providers to run Anypoll. They process data on our behalf under contracts and may not use it for their own purposes:
- Clerk (sign-in and account management)
- Supabase (database, hosted in the United States)
- Twilio (sending verification codes, checking number type and, if you choose them, sending text alerts)
- Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery and security)
- Customer.io (sending email updates)
- Google (Google Analytics, visit statistics, only as described under Cookies)
- a payment provider, once donations open
If you sign in with Google, X or another account, that company also handles the sign-in under its own privacy policy. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a reorganization (for example when Anypoll moves to its own entity), in which case this policy continues to protect your data.
We do not sell or share your data for advertising
We do not sell personal data, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined in California law. We have not done so in the past 12 months.
Mobile information. We do not sell, rent or share mobile phone numbers, or text message opt-in data and consent, with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Twilio processes them only to deliver our texts.
How long we keep data
- Account, votes, points and profile: while your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days. Votes stay counted in poll totals, without being linked to you, because published results must stay fixed.
- Phone fingerprint: while your account exists, and for up to 12 months after deletion, only to stop the same number being used to vote twice in the same polls.
- Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe, plus a record of your consent and unsubscribe for as long as needed to prove it.
- Text alerts: your number while alerts are on. After you opt out, we keep the number with the record of your consent and opt-out for up to 4 years, only to prove them, then delete it. The log of texts sent: up to 4 years.
- Rate-limit data: 1 day. Sign-in error logs: 60 days. Other logs: up to 12 months.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, delete it, or stop sending you emails or texts. You can change or delete your voter profile and hide from the leaderboard yourself at any time.
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither); to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we only use it for the purposes described above, which the law allows); and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Impact points for the voter profile are given for completing it, and "Prefer not to say" counts, so you never have to reveal anything to earn them. Points have no cash value. In the last 12 months we collected the categories described under "What we collect": identifiers, internet activity on Anypoll, approximate location, and, only with consent, characteristics such as age, gender, race or ethnicity, and political opinions.
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other US states with privacy laws have similar rights to access, correct, delete and get a copy of their data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale and profiling (we do none of these). We process sensitive data only with your consent. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and you can contact your state attorney general if you disagree with the outcome.
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time (this doesn't affect processing before you withdrew), and to complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address linked to your account. We may need to confirm it's you before acting. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission.
International transfers
Anypoll is run from the United States, and our providers process data mainly in the United States. If you use Anypoll from outside the US, your data is transferred there, using safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where our providers are certified.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections, strict access rules in our database (visitors can only read totals), salted fingerprints instead of phone numbers, limits against automated abuse and access for our team only where needed. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
Children
Anypoll is not intended for children under 13, and the full voter profile is only for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If the year of birth someone gives us shows they may be under 13, we delete their votes and profile answers and the account can no longer vote. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this policy when Anypoll changes, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you on the site or by email before it applies.
